Robbie McAboy Selected as District Director for Ely District
ELY, Nevada – The Bureau of Land Management has selected Robbie McAboy as the new Ely District Director. McAboy took up his new role on August 17.
A long-time member of the BLM Nevada team, Robbie was previously Associate District Director for the District of Winnemucca and held several federal positions with the BLM and the US Forest Service.
“I am extremely happy to have Robbie as the District Director for the Ely District,” said Jon Raby, State Director for BLM Nevada. “Ely District is a vibrant part of the state and the team there has a diverse set of roles and responsibilities in the management of public lands. Whether responding to forest fires, authorizing mining and grazing actions, managing important fish and wildlife habitats, reducing fire threats from the forest through reducing hazardous fuels, managing wild horses and burros, supporting the local community and economy, or contributing to the many recreational and public events, it’s an important mission and a great team. Robbie is an exceptional and proven leader who can take the Ely team into the future.
Raby also thanks Shane DeForest, who has served as the Interim District Director for most of the past year.
Robbie graduated with Distinction from Alabama A&M University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. After graduation, she began her federal career in the Uinta National Forest. She then spent 10 years in the forestry department before moving to the Southern Nevada District of BLM, where she managed the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area and served as Site Manager for the Walking Ranch. Box.
Prior to Winnemucca, Robbie was District Manager for Elko and prior to that she was the National Dingell Law Coordinator.
