Monestime District Coordinator remains at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida. –Miami-Dade County Commissioner’s District Coordinator Jean Monestime remained behind bars Saturday afternoon at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility, according to correctional records.
Evelt Jeudy, charged in a public corruption case, was accused of using his position in Miami-Dade County government to commit fraud. He faces dozens of charges.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer lowered her bond on Friday from $148,000 to $99,000, but it stood still when Jeudy’s attorney asked that it be lowered further. She ordered him to surrender his passport.
Officers arrested Jeudy, 59, and corrections officers booked him shortly after midnight Friday, records show. Jeudy’s alleged crimes date back to 2016. Monestime, who trusted Jeudy, did not respond to questions about the arrest, and the Miami-Dade State’s Attorney’s Office did not release the warrant. in the case.
Jeudy’s long list of charges includes racketeering, organized fraud, 15 counts of official misconduct, six counts of robbery and unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior.
After his arrest, correction files showed Jeudy also facing four counts of official misconduct on 1/10/6, two counts of grand theft, three counts of unlawfully depositing a false document, five counts of fraudulent use of a coin identity, two counts of a notary who falsely takes an acknowledgment of an instrument and four counts of fraudulent use of an identity document.
Jeudy also faced two counts of fraudulent use or possession with intent to use the personal identifying information of a deceased person or a dissolved business entity, conflict of interest/exploitation of official position, conflict of interest to solicit or demand a gift, and conflict of interest/disclose the gift.
