“Israeli forces dismantle and seize structures near district city of Jerusalem” – – IMEMC News
JERUSALEM, Wednesday November 17, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli forces dismantled and seized nearby Palestinian structures today az-Za’ayyem village, east of the occupied city of Jerusalem, according to local sources.
Director of the village municipality, Mohammad Abu-Zayad, said Israeli forces cordoned off al-Saïdi herding community, near the village, where they dismantled two residential structures, each occupying 120 square meters, in addition to five sheep shelters, and seized the structures using a crane truck.
Israel daily demolishes Palestinian homes and structures in order to advance the forced displacement and transfer of Palestinians in the occupied territories, including pastoralist communities on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
Israel denies Palestinians building permits on their own land or expanding existing homes to accommodate natural growth, especially in Jerusalem and Area C, which constitutes 60% of the occupied West Bank and falls under entirely under Israeli military rule, forcing residents to build without obtaining permits rarely granted to provide shelter for their families.
In contrast, Israel maintains that construction within existing colonial settlements is necessary to accommodate the “natural growth” of settlers. As a result, it much more easily gives the more than 700,000 Jewish Israeli settlers building permits and provides them with roads, electricity, water and sewage systems that remain inaccessible to many neighboring Palestinians.
