Edward Gejay, Broadcasting Service District Manager – The Daily Gazette
For the past 39 years, Edward Gejay’s job has been to satisfy both The Gazette’s customers and carriers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
As one of four Traffic Department District Managers, Gejay is a key member of a team that is not only responsible for building strong, consistent and respectful relationships with commercial and residential customers, but also for overseeing the many carriers responsible for delivering The Gazette to workplaces and homes every day. He and his colleagues have two goals: increase circulation and provide a positive delivery experience for all Gazette subscribers.
One of the things Gejay has enjoyed the most about his position is his early but flexible schedule. “The morning hours of the traffic department have always appealed to me,” he says. “When my sons were younger and school-aged, flexible hours gave me the flexibility to be home for them, and as they became more active in school activities, I was able to assist more easily.”

Gejay also saw major changes in the carriers he managed. In the early years of his career, most porters were children with walking routes. Now these carriers are older and deliver to much larger areas. He explains that “as traffic increased and neighborhoods consolidated, fewer ‘walkways’ were needed and operator stations were gradually introduced into the business.
He fondly remembers the supervised career trips The Gazette provided for its young workers, events designed to help them get to know each other and spend time together. In the ’80s and ’90s, Gejay says, The Gazette took its carriers to places like Washington, DC, a dude ranch in Lake George, and even New York Yankees baseball games.
“These experiences were a bonus for the kids, and they stuck to their guns as they looked forward to them,” he said.
In addition to opportunities for children, Gejay also remembers when The Gazette sponsored softball and basketball teams for its employees.
“Teams would typically play Times Union and Post Office employees,” he said. One game, however, is particularly memorable for Gejay: “On a special occasion, our basketball team played against the New York Giants.
Looking back on his nearly four decades of employment at The Gazette, he has positive things to say about the company and his colleagues. “The Gazette has been a good company to work for over the years. I’ve made lasting friendships with co-workers, and even with carriers I’ve supervised who have been in my districts for years.
