Colm Lavery, outgoing Arklow district manager, praised for his work

At the Arklow Municipal District meeting in December, councilors paid tribute to the outgoing district director and Wicklow County Council’s director of transport, water and emergency services, Colm Lavery.

r Lavery is moving to a new position within the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Councilor Pat Kennedy (FF), alternate as meeting chair, led Mr. Lavery’s appreciation during the meeting.

“Before we get on to any other business I would like to pay tribute to Colm Lavery, this will be his last meeting. Since you’ve been here I think you’ve made a huge contribution. You’ve been open and fair with everything. world and I have been there for community groups.

“The work you have done with the team from this neighborhood, this contribution is visible throughout the neighborhood.

“I would like to wish you and your family the best of luck on your next adventure. If we were to describe your accomplishments, we would be here for more than one meeting.

The other elected councilors also greeted Mr. Lavery.

Councilor Tommy Annesley (FF) said: “I was blown away by this news on Monday. You were a breath of fresh air, always available, and your phone was always on. I am sure we will meet again.

Councilor Sylvester Bourke (FG) said: “It was a shock for me too, I thought you were playing such a good role. When we suggested some programs that you ran with them, not all of them were successful, but many were completed. It is disappointing that you go there.

Councilor Pat Fitzgerald (FF) said: “I want to thank you for the work done for the neighborhood, you were always available at all times. Good luck Colm and maybe we’ll see each other somewhere.

Councilor Peir Leonard (Ind) said: “I don’t want to repeat what everyone has said before me, but I want to thank Colm and I hope the next person is as nice as you are. I was talking to some of the independent advisers and they are devastated that you are leaving too.

Mr. Lavery said, “Thank you all, I’m a little embarrassed to tell you the truth upon hearing these things. I have been in this position for almost three years, since March 2019.

“There has been a lot of investment in local authorities and I hope we have made a difference.

“I want to congratulate all the staff in the Municipal District of Arklow, it was one of the most enjoyable parts of my job working with them and seeing the projects come to fruition. I also want to thank the members, you have made my job a lot easier.

“Arklow is booming and I know that with the team we have left, we have all the resources Arklow needs to benefit from whatever comes our way. I know that between the advisors and the team that we are very well served. Merry Christmas and New Year if our paths do not cross by then.

Cllr Kennedy ended the tributes by saying, “Please continue to be a friend of Wicklow’s and I hope we can sit down for a bite to eat when the restrictions allow.”
