BLM Announces Appointment of Al Elser as Farmington District Manager – The Durango Herald

The New Mexico Bureau of Land Management announced the appointment of Al Elser as District Manager of Farmington. Elser was sworn into his position at a ceremony in Farmington on Dec. 11 by BLM New Mexico State Director Tim Spisak.

As District Manager of Farmington, Elser will oversee 150 employees, 2 million acres of public lands and 7 million acres of federal oil, natural gas and minerals managed for the use and enjoyment of present generations and future. The Farmington District includes both the Farmington and Taos Field offices. In managing the lands and mineral resources of the district, the BLM is guided by the principles of multiple use and sustained yield.

Prior to Elser’s appointment, he served at BLM’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. as Deputy Division Manager for Solid Minerals, beginning in January 2015. From January to December 2018, then March to November 2019, Elser served as the interim division. leader of solid minerals.

Elser earned his M.S. in Geology and Ph.D. in Chemistry with a concentration in Geochemistry from Georgia State University. He earned his BS in Geology from the University of Wyoming.

Elser replaces Victoria Barr, who has accepted the position of Program Operations Branch Chief at the BLM National Operations Center in Denver.
